''For such a little bear, Wonderheart Bear has a lot of big questions! Full of curiosity, she can’t wait to discover new wonders together with friends!'' - Wonderheart Bear's bio.
Wonderheart Bear is a dark pink Care Bear cub who was the first new character to be introduced in the 2012 Welcome to Care-a-Lot series. She is the niece of Tenderheart Bear.
Wonderheart is the deuteragonist of the 2012 series Welcome to Care-a-Lot and the main protagonist of the 2015 Netflix series Care Bears & Cousins.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Wonderheart is a young Care Bear cub, possibly 4 or 5 years old, with dark pink fur and her Belly badge is a three-layered light pink, yellow, and darker pink heart motif.
Personality[]
Young, inquisitive, and always full of, well, wonder, Wonderheart lives in Care-a-Lot with her uncle Tenderheart. Small though she may be, however, she always tags along with the bigger bears in their games and adventures, and is never seen without her stuffed toy and best friend Floppy Bunny. While her Belly Badge powers haven't quite developed yet, she's perhaps a little too eager to find out what they are, which can sometimes get her into trouble. Due to being the youngest, Wonderheart can't do as much stuff as the older bears get to do, but she's welcomed into the group, treated as an equal, and never talked down to. She has a tendency to start or end her sentences with "I wonder..." Another one of her favorite phrases is "Care hug!", which she often likes to shout before giving one.
Appearances[]
Welcome to Care-a-Lot[]
Wonderheart is one of the main characters in the Welcome to Care-a-Lot series, where she lives with Tenderheart in his lighthouse. The creators developed Wonderheart in order to appeal to the younger demographic, after testing the initial pilot with children. While she's too young to have Belly Badge powers of her own, Wonderheart spends her time hanging out with the other bears and having fun however she can.
She is the main character in the A Belly Badge for Wonderheart story-arc, consisting of three episodes.
- In "Cub Bouts", Wonderheart wants to join the Cub Bouts, led by Baby Hugs and Baby Tugs, but since her Belly Badge doesn't activate at the moment, she cannot join. She cheats her way into joining when she begins to use Tenderheart's Care 'N Share Charms to grant her own wishes, which eventually backfire on her.
- In "In a Flash", Wonderheart goes out during a stardust storm and into the mountains beyond, where she met the wizened Grams Bear. With the old bear's help, Wonderheart was able to train herself in how to use her tummy, but not her powers, and once again set off to find the fabled "mystic melon" that would instantly unlock her power. When Grams apparently becomes trapped beneath the enormous fruit, Wonderheart summons the ability to shine a search beacon for the first time for the other bears to help.
- In "Beaconing For Attention", when Wonderheart uses her Belly Badge beacon irresponsibly, Tenderheart invites a girl named Isabella to help her be responsible when using her Belly Badge beacon, and when it's actually needed.
Care Bears & Cousins[]
Wonderheart is once again a main character in Care Bears and Cousins, becoming more of a focus than in Welcome to Care-a-Lot.
With the return of the Care Bear Cousins and the Share Cloud, Wonderheart soon discovers that one of her belly badge's powers is to help the Care Hearts go to the Share Cloud. She soon begins using this power to great effect, but finds that there are limits to her power when her continued efforts leave her on the brink of exhaustion.
Care Bears: Unlock the Magic[]
Wonderheart appeared in several Care Bears: Unlock the Music songs from the second season, starting with "Best Wishes", as well as a brief appearance in Care Bears: Caring Quest. This was the last time that any major focus was put on her.
Despite being heavily featured in Welcome to Care-a-Lot and Care Bears and Cousins, she is severely downgraded in Unlock the Magic, she's always absent, doesn't have her own episodes, no longer accompanies Tenderheart, and she only exists as a background character. She also doesn't appear in "The Bears Are Back in Town - The Ultimate Guidebook."
Merchandise[]
Two plush toys were released of Wonderheart Bear. The first was a normal plush with a DVD featuring the Welcome to Care-a-Lot episode "Show of Shyness." This DVD was included with a number of other plush releases at the time. The other was called Wiggle Hugs Wonderheart Bear, an animatronic plush that could sing and dance, and with a toy microphone attached.
However, Wonderheart is not available in the Unlock the Magic toy line.
Trivia[]
- Not just new to Welcome to Care-a-Lot, Wonderheart also has the distinction of being the first new Care Bear of the 2010's.
- While her exact age is not revealed, in the episode "Cub Bouts", she mentions that Baby Hugs and Baby Tugs are younger than her.
- In the episode "Lazy Susan", Wonderheart drinks a cup of ill-prepared rainbow tea that temporarily alters her fur to look like "a pink panda", making her resemble the 2000's re-design of Polite Panda.
- In direct contrast to Shreeky being the niece of No Heart who is a villain of the Care Bears, Wonderheart is the niece of Tenderheart.
- Her Belly Badge ability is to respond to the Share Cloud.
- Along with Tenderheart Bear, Rainbow Heart Bear, and Togetherness Bear, Wonderheart is the one of the only bears to have a heart as a belly badge.
- Wonderheart is the second character after Oopsy to not be magically empowered by the start of the series. Unlike Oopsy who does not have a belly badge, Wonderheart does have hers but her powers were not activated in Welcome to Care-a-Lot. The first season of Care Bears & Cousins has a story arc in which she discovers and activates her powers.
